Jizerske Mountains
Jizerské hory is the very northern mountain chain in our country. It is the region of melancholic peatbogs, never ending woods and steep rocky slopes. Jizerské hory provides the ideal conditions for skiing. The highest mountain is Smrk (Spruce), 1124 m high. Jizerské hory offers the accommodation in numerous hotels and chalets. In these mountains you can find the wild country in its prehistoric intactness, the country influenced by a man and simultaneously deeply influencing its inhabitants in rare harmonic unity. Jizerské hory used to be like that in 1968 when the protected zone of Jizerské hory, one of the oldest zones in the Czech Republic was announced to protect the mountains. Jizerské hory are called after Jizera River which rises here. The small monuments commemorating various tragedies (poacher´s gunfights, freeze, murders, getting lost, etc.) belong among the remarkable places of interest. Peatbogs are characteristic for Jizerské hory. The National nature preserve called Jizehorské bučiny predominate from many protected zones.Jizerské hory they are observation towers, which will offer you a beautiful view to the landscape. The most frequented towers are Královak, Bramberk and Hvězda. In Jizerské hory there is laying one of the most beautiful cross-country racing areas in Bohemia, Jizerská magistrála where the net of racing tracks interlace the endless plains. Cross-country ski race called “Jizerská 50” has been organized since 1967 in Jizerské hory every year. Its younger sister is “Jizerská 50 on bikes”. A big number of cycling routes are indicated in Jizerské hory.
The interesting places in Jizerské hory are city of imitation jewellery, Jablonec upon Nisa (a lot of chairs, city theatre, Museum of glass and imitation jewellery), Liberec and also small towns Jindřichovice pod Smrkem,Raspenava, Frýdlant with a castle and chateau having the same name, Oldřichov v Hájích, Hejnice (Holy shrine of Mary visitation), Tanvald, Příchovice and Harrachov.
